Killadrown Castle is mentioned in the OS letters as 'An old castle lies in ruins in the west part of Killadrown townland' (O'Flanagan 1933 vol. 2, 20). Today only a short section of the west wall of the castle survives measuring 2.3m in length and standing 1.4m high, the rest of the walls have been removed. Sections of the castle walls may be covered by a mound of collapsed rubble which is located on the eastern side of the upstanding wall. The 19th century farmhouse and outbuildings located c. 70m to the east of the castle may have been built with stone taken from the castle. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
