What is recorded here
In 1612 Thomas Petyt [Petit] of Irishtown was granted 'a water-mill' (Cal. pat. rolls Ire., Jas I, 234) in the townland of Ballynkiny [Ballinkeeny]. The precise location of this watermill within the townland of Ballinkeeny has not been identified. Mosstown Mill may have been built on site of medieval mill.
