Outbuilding in Gowla has a thatched roof, rough granite walls and a smooth tarmac approach. It’s a shed with notions: next there’ll be a velvet rope and a man asking whether your wheelbarrow is on the list.
Detached single-bay single-storey outbuilding, built c.1860. Pitched thatched roof with stepped rubble stone verges. Painted formerly limewashed drystone rubble granite walls with rubble quoins. Square-headed window opening to rear elevation and square-headed door opening to north, latter with replacement timber battened door. Tarmacadamed area to front of building which stands at roadside.
This vernacular outbuilding is one of a distinctive series in West Galway. It is a small and modest building attesting to the relative simplicity of vernacular architecture.
