What is recorded here
On a Monday afternoon in March 1989, two senior police officers returned from a quiet cross-border meeting when six gunmen opened fire on a red car near Jonesborough. Chief Superintendent Harry Breen and Superintendent Bob Buchanan died within moments, Breen after waving a white cloth and stepping from the vehicle. The cruelty of that final act still outrages, while the absence of any conviction leaves the event suspended in anger and doubt.
1989 Jonesborough ambush is an ambush in County Armagh, Ireland.
