Ogham stone in Burgatia

Ogham stone

What is recorded here

Burgatia holds a lost ogham stone marked by a single letter, either Q or N, carved on a rectangular block now buried under grass and forgetfulness. The graveyard keeps the remains of Templefachtna beside it, suggesting the place once belonged to someone worthy of naming. The stone may still lie beneath the turf, waiting for a hand brave enough to scrape away the green and ask what it remembers.
In the NW corner of a graveyard (CO143-029001-) in which are the remains of Templefachtna (CO143-029002-). Windele noticed a rectangular block of stone (c. 1.06m x 0.47m x 0.22m) partly concealed by grass on which he identified a single letter, either Q or N, of an ogham inscription roughly in the middle of one of the long angles (Macalister 1945, vol. 1, 81). This stone could not be located in the graveyard and no local information about its whereabouts was gained. (Ronan et al. 2009, no. 16164) Compiled by: Nora White Date of upload: 24 April 2016
