Ogham stone

This is one of seven ogham stones (KD032-044001- to KD032-044007-) found at 'Killeen Cormac' burial ground (KD032-044----). This stone is often referred to as the 'bilingual Stone' as it has inscriptions in both ogham and Latin. However, it is not bilingual in the true sense: the Latin is not a direct translation of the ogham, or vice versa; unlike in Wales where stones with direct bilingual translations of ogham are recorded (pers. comm. Fionnbarr Moore). This stone, now on display in the National Museum of Ireland (see DU018-359----), is 1.57m x 0.28m x 0.28m (converted from Macalister 1945, 22) and the inscription reads (ogham) OVANOS AVI IVACATTOS and (Latin) IVVEn/rE DRVVIDES.
