Northring House

Detached five-bay two-storey house, built c.1760, having single-bay single-storey addition to side (south-west) and multiple-bay single-storey block to side (north-east). Pitched slate roofs throughout, having rendered chimneystacks, timber-clad eaves courses and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered wall with moulded render quoins to front (south-east) elevation, slate hanging to side (south-west) elevation. Square-headed window openings with stone sills having moulded render block-and-start surrounds and one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door opening having pedimented render surround comprising pilasters surmounted by pediment, timber panelled door and overlight.

This fine eighteenth century house, located on the shore of Clonakilty Bay, is a prominent feature in the surrounding landscape. It has maintained its historic character by remaining largely unaltered and retaining key historic features including timber sash windows, slate hanging and cast-iron rainwater goods. The delightfully slightly irregular fenestration rhythm is a charming feature, which is accentuated by the render detailing.
