What is recorded here

Described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as a 'small castle ye walls onely standinge, a thatcht house with severall other small Cottages, a garden & Oarchard with Quicsetts about them' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 245). Walter Butler of Nodstowne is listed as proprietor in 1640 (ibid.). The present Nodstowne House, which is located 30m to S of tower house (TS052-010001-), is an 18th-century two-storey gable-ended house with bow-fronted doorway in centre of S façade. There is no evidence of the thatched house mentioned in the Civil Survey, this remains unlocated within the townland, though it is probably located near the tower house.
