Mungret CollegeCollege, stables · 185 yd

Explorer Tom Mungret College in Dromdarrig saw a poet fall into a ditch nearby and never recover. It was an agricultural college, so the curriculum was basically mud management. Toast it with a cup of strong tea and move on.

school297 yd

Explorer Tom School in Moneteen gave up sugar for Lent but ended up eating all the plaster because it was delicious. Now it’s a daycare, so the noise levels are basically a new architectural feature. Take the long way round, it dese

Burial GroundGraveyard · 376 yd

Explorer Tom Burial Ground in Dromdarrig claims to be older than the concept of time itself. Neasán started it, but he might have been lying. Visit, then text me what you think. I'll pretend to read it.

Not shown.Fulacht fia · 388 yd

Explorer Tom Fulacht fia in Castlemungret has clearly made up its mind about retirement and is sitting out on the fence. It spent four thousand years boiling stones, so it really needs a long holiday before the next renovation starts. A good place to forget your phone for ten minutes.

Mungret Abbey (in ruins)Church · 400 yd

Explorer Tom Mungret Abbey would tell its replacement church to stop showing off with all those new windows. It’s just an old monastery that likes its quiet corner in the graveyard. Perfect place to be dramatically windswept.

Mount MungretRectory/glebe/vicarage/curate's house · 423 yd

Explorer Tom Mount Mungret in Moneteen would bring a vintage vase and a suspiciously expensive drink to any party. It blends classical elegance with Victorian flair like a smooth jazz track. Go in good boots and better manners if you dare.

Church (in ruins)Church · 523 yd

Explorer Tom Baunacloka Church is so sturdy it would survive a zombie attack by simply standing still and letting them trip over its walls. Neasán built it with such confidence that even time hasn’t managed to dent its reputation or its structure. Ideal for a moody photo you'll pretend wasn't posed.

TemplemungretHouse · 896 yd

Explorer Tom Templemungret would put 'RIP: Overthinking My Gables' on its tombstone. The Gothic details are sharp enough to cut glass, or at least your patience if you stare too long. Mind the nettles, they bite harder than the architecture.

post box1538 yd

Explorer Tom The post box in Raheen has had more name changes than a soap opera starlet. It’s still loyal to the crown, even if you forgot who that was. Best enjoyed with a bag of crisps.

Carrigogunnel Castle (in ruins)Castle, Anglo-Norman masonry castle · 2.7 mi

Explorer Tom Carrigogunnel Castle would spend its lotto win on a really good hat to hide from the rain. It’s been sitting on a rock since the days when people wore fur coats indoors. Pick a stone, any stone, and invent its biography.

Carrigogunnell CastleRuins · 2.7 mi

Explorer Tom Carrigogunnell Castle climbed a volcanic rock above the Shannon and still managed to get knocked about. Its defences go back at least to the early thirteenth century, guarding low ground near Clarina. After the second Siege of Limerick, the castle was deliberately damaged in September 1691 so it could not serve again as a stronghold. I would protest that the view alone deserved preservation, but nobody in that war was taking my advice. The broken walls and uneven plan are part of what survives, not a complete castle ready for a tour of bedrooms. Check current lawful access before approaching, keep well away from unstable masonry and do not mistake a tempting gap for a safe route. View the rock from a little distance first. It explains both the builders' confidence and the later determination to put the fort beyond use.

Limerick Seamen's MemorialMemorial · 2.8 mi

Explorer Tom Limerick Seamen’s Memorial has strict rules: no running, no shouting, and definitely no wet socks. It remembers when ships were bringing goods into Ireland while we sat out the war. Practise your Irish on it, it won’t correct you.
