Detached double-pile three-bay two-storey over basement house with attic, built c. 1780, having two-bay single-storey projection to east gable. Currently undergoing restoration. Pitched reslated roof with replacement rendered chimneystacks. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth rendered plinth. Square-headed window openings having render surrounds, tooled limestone sills and replacement two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows throughout. Round-headed window opening to rear elevation. Elliptical-headed door opening having render surround with render keystone, timber panelled door flanked by carved timber engaged colonnettes, spoked timber fanlight, paned sidelights and timber panelled risers with limestone plinths. Approached by diminishing limestone steps. Cast-iron railings to basement area at rear. Courtyard of outbuildings to west. Coursed rubble sandstone and limestone curved entrance walls terminating in lightly tooled sandstone and limestone rubble square-plan piers.
This middle-sized late eighteenth-century house retains a strong sense of its original character, which is being sympathetically restored. The simply designed front elevation is regularly punctuated by square-headed windows ranged around the central doorway. The diminishing limestone entrance steps add a sense of grandeur enhanced by the fanlight and sidelights. The house is connected to a formally planned complex of stables, in grounds masked from the road by a line of trees.
