Freestanding bronze semi-abstract figurative sculpture of W B Yeats, erected 1990, resting on raised circular stone plinth. Light fixture and bronze plaque with incised details to base. Inscription reads "W B Yeats Poet 1865-1939 erected by public subscription form the people of Sligo and generous support of Ulster Bank." Stands in centre of open space in front of bank.
This sculpture has centre stage in a main thoroughfare of Sligo Town. The flamboyant pose and gesture of Yeats enlivens the surrounding area adding historical and artistic interest. The monumental scale of the bank as a backdrop to the sculpture creates an interesting balance of art and architecture.
