What is recorded here
Situated on the WNW-facing slope of a hill in rolling pasture. Depicted on the 1st ed. (1843) OS 6-inch map as a rectangular outline with S edge abutting or truncated by NE-SW field boundary and trees growing on NE side. Site similarly depicted on the 1904 ed. though with hachures indicating a pit. An irregular rectangular enclosure (dims. 38.5m NW-SE; c.30m long on W side) enclosed by a clay bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.3m), reduced to a scarp at W. The site is quite disturbed and is used as a small field. There are several gaps in the bank - at the S end of the E side (caused by cattle trampling), at the E end of the S side allowing access to the adjacent field, and in the centre of the W side caused by cattle gaining access to two long feeders in the interior.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
