Down Survey cartographers marked a castle on the south bank of a Cloghinch stream, yet local memory places it higher on the esker summit. The discrepancy leaves the true site hidden beneath grass or forgotten entirely. Whatever structure stood there, it has surrendered its walls to time and its location to doubt.

Castle depicted on Down Survey map of Templederry parish (NLI, MS 721) located in the townland of Cloghinch. On this map a castle is shown standing on the S bank of a stream. According to local tradition this castle was situated on the summit of the esker overlooking stream to S. The precise location of this castle has not been identified.
