Moated site in Bredagh (athlone South By., Turrock Ed)

Moated site

What is recorded here

On marshy, low-lying ground. Rectangular grass-covered area (dims 69m WNW-ESE; 65.5m NNE-SSW) defined by interrupted earthen banks (Wth 4-4.5m; int. H 0.5-0.75m; ext. H 0.9m) and outer flat-bottomed moats (Wth of top 8.2m; Wth of base 5-5.5m; D 0.85-0.95m). There are slight outer banks (Wth 2-2.6m; ext. H 0.25m), probably the result of a re-cut of the moats for drains which enter the moats at the NW and SW corners and exit at the SW and SE corners into a small N-S stream or drain.
