Part refenestrated, c.1900. Reroofed, c.1980. Gable-ended roofs (gabled to porch and to dormer attic windows). Replacement artificial slate, c.1980. Concrete ridge tiles. Rendered chimney stacks. Replacement timber eaves, c.1980. Replacement plastic rainwater goods, c.1980. Roughcast walls. Unpainted. Square-headed openings. Stone sills. Replacement 6/3 timber sash windows to front (north-east) elevation. Early 2/2 timber sash windows to remainder. Fixed-pane timber windows to porch. Glazed timber panelled door. Set back from road in own landscaped grounds. Gravel drive along side elevation to south-east.
This house is a fine and well-maintained middle size building that retains much of its original character. Built on an asymmetrical plan, the combination of a two-storey main block with a wing having dormer attic emphasises the unassuming quality of the structure. Although reroofed with artificial slate in the late twentieth century, the remainder of the house retains much of its early or original materials, including fenestration – the replacement articles to the front (north-east) elevation are in keeping with the remainder of the composition. Of social and historic interest, the house represents a component of the early development of the locality. The house is attractively set in its own grounds and is a valuable contribution to the architectural heritage of Rathmore.
