What is recorded here

Wall-mounted cast-iron milestone, c.1850, on a triangular plan with raised lettering. Road fronted on a corner site and mounted in slight recess in random rubble stone boundary wall.
An appealing item of street furniture that is particular to County Waterford, and normally positioned in stone depots (for example 22903303/WD-33-03). The milestone represents a good example of early surviving mass-produced cast-iron work, while the raised elements enhance the design quality of the piece. The milestone presents a discreet feature in the streetscape that contributes to the historic quality of the locality.
