What is recorded here
Triangular-profile granite milestone, c.1780, inscribed on two sides.
This milestone is a reminder of the great coaching era in Ireland when there was a coach based system of postal distribution. The simple form and carving of the structure is similar to other such milestones which are found in Meath, dating to the same period. The south side reads: 'Carrickmacross 9 miles, Kingscourt 6 miles'. The north side reads: 'Dublin 31 miles, Slane 9 miles'. The initials 'CM' carved into top of north and south sides of the milestone.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
