Midden in Barnahely

This shell midden was discovered in 2005 during monitoring of pipe-laying, 7m S of the gate leading to Castlewarren tower house (CO087-052001-). Trenching for a sewer pipe uncovered the E edge of this shell midden, located c. 1m below the ground surface. The exposed portion of the midden (T c. 0.5m) consisted of shells. According to the excavator (Cotter 2005, 10), no attempt was made to remove any of the deposit as it was sealed when the sewer trench was backfilled.
