Castlehyde East hid iron works mentioned by Grove-White in 1911, yet local memory has erased the exact spot. The site likely hammered hot metal near Carrignedy before disappearing from human awareness. It remains a ghost of industry, present only in that one written line and the shape of the land.

Grove-White (1911, 90) refers to 'iron works' that were set up 'about Carrignedy'. 'Carrignedy' is the old name for Castlehyde.
