Memorial stone in Ballyseedy

Poorly preserved remains of the medieval church ruins (KE038-021----) of Ballyseedy standing in NW quadrant of graveyard (KE038-021001-) with 19th century Church of Ireland church (NIAH Reg. No. 21303801) 30m to S. 17th century wall memorial dedicated to the Sandes family was inserted into the partially blocked up E window embrasure which is partially covered by a large 19th century burial vaulted tomb. Only a short section of the incised Latin inscription is now visible as the remainder of the stone is blocked by the 19th century tomb. the top of the stone is decorated with incised S-shaped spiral of typical seventeenth century style. The visible section of the inscription reads; 'Hic Jacent.......Sandes Qui......Flore Spem........' Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 2 June 2022
