Gateway, c.1890, comprising pair of rock-faced limestone ashlar piers with cut-stone stringcourses and coping, hoop iron double gates, and sections of random rubble stone flanking boundary walls having lime mortar, and rendered coping. Road fronted at junction of two roads at entrance to grounds of Melrose House.

An attractive gateway of simple appearance, attesting to high quality stone masonry in the construction in limestone ashlar, and which retains early wrought iron gates, which enhance the design quality of the composition. The gateway forms an appealing, if subtle, feature in the streetscape.
