Carrigawaddera in County Kerry may have hidden a megalithic tomb beneath a large square stone, but that possibility has never been precisely located. The lost monument probably served people who understood death as a journey into earth rather than an ending. A forgotten hand may have placed that stone upon the hill, trusting it to remain visible long after every name and road had changed.

In the 1930s Capt. D. B. O'Connell noted that on top of Carrigawaddera there is a large square stone, several tons in weight, propped up on its E side by means of a little flagstone (KAS). This possible monument, which may have been a megalithic tomb, has not been precisely located. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
