What is recorded here
Tooreennafersha, Templeno, County Kerry, Ireland. A hidden cave inside a fort, now closed up, waits beneath the ground. The passage has vanished from maps and memory, but the fort still stands guard over the secret doorway.
A 'fort having a cave (KE091-105001- ) in it, now closed up', is recorded in this townland in the OSNB (Templeno, 19). It is not marked on the OS maps and its precise location could not be established.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 696. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
