Man-made underground passage in Tonregee (ballyshannon Ed)

The entrance to this Man-made underground passage, previously unmarked on the OS 6-inch maps, is situated in the face of a rocky ridge. The entry is 1m in width and 0.7m in height. This gives directly onto a chamber running SW-NE, 0.98m in height 1m in length and 0.5m in width. There is a small recess, 0.39m x 0.42m x 0.58m, 0.1m above floor level in the E wall. Beyond this the wall curves W to form the N side of the chamber. Right up against the W wall is a doorway 0.61m x 0.38m which leads into a passage 1.05m long and 0.7m in height. This gives onto a second chamber running NW-SE. It is 1.03m wide and 0.96m high. At the NW end a blocked-up entry leads to another chamber, allegedly the largest of all. The walls of the Man-made underground passage are of drystone construction and it is slab-roofed. The floor, which is obscured by mud, appears to be of rock. A peforated bead made froma horse's tooth was found here some time ago (NMI). The Man-made underground passage is located on an E-W rocky ridge.
