Man-made underground passage in Leaffony is a man-made underground passage in Leaffony, County Sligo, Ireland. The oval chamber measures 2.3m north-south, 1.7m east-west and 1.1m high, with walls of large irregular or rounded boulders corbelled to support stone lintels. One lintel remains in place, one is embedded in the floor, and a possible ventilation shaft 0.25m wide and 0.23m high is set in the east wall. A break in the south wall gives access, a covered stone-built tunnel lies close by, and a quarry pit 8.5m north-south, 10.5m east-west and 1.8m deep is immediately east.

In pasture, immediately to N of a fragment of E–W field fence, and 40m N of a possible rath (SL011-134----). The exposed remnants of the Man-made underground passage consist of an oval chamber (2.3m N–S; 1.7m E–W; H 1.1m) of drystone construction. The walls, of large irregular or rounded boulders, are roughly corbelled to support a roof of stone lintels, only one of which remains in situ. One displaced lintel is embedded in the floor of the chamber and others may have been removed. There is a possible ventilation shaft (Wth 0.25m; H 0.23m) in the wall at E. A break in the wall on the S side gives access to the chamber. According to the landowner, there is also a stone-built tunnel, now covered over, close to the chamber. Immediately to E is a quarry pit (8.5m N–S; 10.5m E–W; D 1.8m). There is another rath (SL011-085----) located c. 300m to E. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 22 April 2013
