Knocknageeha West holds a buried beehive chamber with at least four rooms growing wider in the dark. In 1864 men broke through a flag stone and found an oak block pierced for five candles, as if somebody had lit that place for company. The chambers may have been a cellar, a shrine or a hiding hole for storms; the oak suggests they visited often enough to furnish the dark.

Broker (1937, 51) recorded a Man-made underground passage in ringfort (probably CO029-081---) in the 'Lios field' on Stephen Walsh's land. Discovered in 1864 when 'flag' was exposed, apparently forming apex stone of circular beehive chamber (H 6 ft). First chamber linked by passage (21/2 feet high and 11/2 feet wide) to at least three other similar chambers (diam. 3 feet) 'higher and wider as they advanced'. Block of oak, c. 3 feet long, 'with five holes in it as if for candles', found in second chamber. Stone covering entrance was inside fort, near bank (ibid.). Exact location not known.
