Knockanemore in Muskerry East By. held five rectangular chambers connected by narrow creepways when men dug them out of a gravel pit in 1970. C.J.F. MacCarthy crawled through the descending passages before the site disappeared, leaving no surface trace except the memory of shapes cut deliberately into living earth. The chambers formed a U-shape, perhaps a shelter, a game or a trap for thought, but the ground took back its secret and kept it.

Discovered in 1970 in gravel pit; investigated by C.J.F. MacCarthy. Later recorded by J.P. McCarthy (1977, 276-7) from C.J.F.'s notes; he describedfive subrectangular earth-cut chambers. Creepway joined chambers 1 and 2, passage sloping downwards joined chambers 2 and 3, passage between chambers 3 and 4 and creepway between chambers 4 and 5; long narrow passage entering chamber 1 at opposite end to creepway; interconnecting chambers formed U-shaped plan. Small number of animal bones found within. Man-made underground passage destroyed following investigation. No visible surface trace.
