Man-made underground passage in Kilburn

Discovered during ploughing in 1981 and investigated by Power (1984, 40-1). Collapsed lintel in roof allowed access to subrectangular stone-built chamber (L 3.2m; Wth 1.2-1.5m; H 1.5-1.8m; long axis N-S); walls corbelled; N end squared off; S end rounded; roofed by three sandstone lintels. Creepway (H 0.35m; Wth 0.35m) at N end; inaccessible but appeared to lead to narrow passage which rose steeply towards ground level, probably an 'entrance shaft' (ibid.).
