Man-made underground passage in Garryduff (kinnatalloon By.)

Garryduff in Kinnatalloon Bay holds a low mound where sandstone blocks still mark the mouth of a buried passage. The structure sits inside a levelled ringfort, suggesting people once cut or dug beneath an ordinary ground surface. That much is clear from the visible remains. What is missing is the shape of the tunnel, the depth of its roof and the reason it was built. A hiding place, a water channel or a private chamber are all possible. The mound preserves the entrance while forgetting the rest.
