What is recorded here

Closed now, the passage once opened in The Lisheen beside an old ringfort, proving that people still shaped the ground when the fort had long fallen quiet. Whether they stored grain, hid tools or simply cut through wet soil, they trusted the dark to keep their work safe. Forgetting has done what plaster and stone could not: it removed the entrance and left behind a field that remembers pressure more than shape.

Bowman (1934, 391) recorded a 'Man-made underground passage found about 30 years ago in Mr Nunan's land in field called The Lisheen. This is now closed up'. Exact location not known. Ringfort (CO015-132---) recorded in same field (ibid.). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
