What is recorded here

No visible surface trace remains in the levelled Cloonteens ringfort, yet Bowman recorded a man-made underground passage there in 1934. The earth swallowed the entrance, but the chamber may still hold its shape beneath the grass, waiting for someone brave enough to listen for hollow echoes before digging.
In levelled ringfort (CO032-003---). Bowman (1934, 672) recorded a Man-made underground passage in this fort. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
