Brittas holds a man-made underground passage inside a levelled ringfort. A central depression marks the site although no surface trace remains visible. The hidden passage may have served as a shelter, store or ceremonial space for the people who built the ringfort.
In levelled ringfort (CO032-079---). According to Bowman (1934, 584), 'a depression in the centre, shows site of Man-made underground passage'. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
