Lissaperikeen

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Lissaperikeen is a fading fairy fort in Galway boggy pasture, holding a children's burial ground beside its empty circular platform. The earth rises slightly in the middle, as if remembering the shape of small bodies once laid there. It is not grand, but it is exact: a ring of soil marking life, death and the uncertainty of what still occupies forgotten ground.
In gently undulating boggy pastureland. This poorly preserved rath (diam. c. 35m) is defined by a circular platform (H 1.2m) which is slightly higher in the middle than at the perimeter. The interior is featureless but a children's burial ground (GA132-034----) is associated. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 11 December 2017
