Height of inner bank raised on W and N sides by dumped material; elsewhere inner face slopes gently down to centre giving saucer-shaped profile to interior. Man-made underground passage (CO030-227---) in interior. According to Bowman (1934, 515), '...called, (on 1841 O.M.) Lisnaheen, which Dr. O'Donovan (1841 F.B.) derives - Lios Naithín (Little Nath's fort)...an aged resident called it Lisnahoon, which is, very probably the correct name; Lios na h-Uamhain - Fort of the Cave'.
