Lisheengorm , hachured

In reclaimed pasture 80m S of a watercourse that marks the townland boundary with Athlacca South. Ringfort (LI039-017----) lies 550m to SE. Annotated ‘Lisheengorm’ on historic OSi maps. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped area enclosed by a bank. Shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a raised sub-circular-shaped area (dims. c. 27m NE-SW; 24m NW-SE) defined a scarp with fosse and outer bank from SE-W-NE. In 1840 the Ordnance Survey recorded that ‘There are also two ancient forts in this townland. One in the N called Lisheengorm, and the other in the S’ (OSNB Abbeyfeale to Bruree 137). Lisheengorm is a hachured fairy fort located in reclaimed pasture near Cloonbrien. Likely dating to the early medieval period, it is associated with local folklore surrounding fairy dwellings, though specific traditions are not recorded.
