On a gentle NE-facing slope at the NW corner of Funshinagh Lough, a large turlough. Known locally as the Lurag, it ran ENE-WSW (L c. 450m) from the NW-SE public road c. 1km W of Funshinagh Lough towards the lake. A short section (L c. 50m) of a fosse (Wth of base 4.3m; Wth of top 9.2m; D 0.7-0.9m), known locally as part of the Lurag which was traditionally dug by an enraged beast (Kelly 1907, 5; Anon 1988a) survives just E of rath (RO045-080001--). If it continued SW of the public road (L c. 700m) it would enter the basin called the Red Bog. Sections of the Lurag (RO045-162----) beginning c. 500m S of the Red Bog continued it to the SW as far as Lough Croan (L c. 1.7km). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
