Kiln in Rath (ratoath By., Cookstown Par.)

Situated on a SW-facings slope. Topsoil stripping (02E0194) in advance of a gas pipeline identified a truncated kiln that was completely excavated as site (BGE: 1A/13/1) under the same licence. It appeared as a soil discoloration (max. dims 1.5m x 0.84m; max. D 0.3m) with a charcoal-rich fill cut into a halo of oxidised subsoil. The channel was clay-lined and there was no stone component.
