Killogan Graveyard

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 March 2012 Revised by: Claire Breen According to O'Donovan (OSL 1839, 16) probably site of 'Cill Eogain'. Present remains consist of oval uncultivated area, enclosed by fence. Within graveyard (CW012-025001) is plain, bossed solid-wheeled cross and base (CW012-025002). Panel on shaft may have had interlace ornament. Cross is broken into fragments. Aerial photographs (GB89.34; GB96.FX.21 and GB20.GP.18) show cropmarks on the eastern side of the graveyard defining a large ecclesiastical enclosure. In places the enclosure is visible as two concentric fosses, with an entrance facing north-east. The fosses extend over two separate fields. Bibliography Barrett, G.F.
