Killiane Castle

Castle

What is recorded here

Killiane Castle is a seven-bay farmhouse built by Reverend James Harvey between 1725 and 1735, standing beside a stronger fourteenth-century castle in south County Wexford. Its silver-grey granite walls, carved timber doors and dog-leg staircase still hold the shape of an early eighteenth-century household, while ivy and lichen soften the edges. The Harvey name returns through captains, sheriffs and distant halls, suggesting generations lived inside these rooms before leases and sales changed their fate.
Killiane Castle is recorded as a castle in County Wexford. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
Built in the 15th century, Killiane Castle was held by the Butler family, one of the most powerful noble families in Ireland. It is remembered as a strategic stronghold in the eastern part of the country during the late medieval period.
