Killeen Burial Ground

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Killeen Burial Ground occupies a south-facing pasture slope in County Cork, Ireland. An irregular dry stone wall, eighty centimetres high, encloses fifty metres of undulating ground where faint markers may still break the grass. The arrangement suggests people once chose this warm edge for death, then stepped back and let the field reclaim them.
In pasture on S-facing slope. Irregular area (L 50m; Wth 30m) enclosed by dry stone wall (H 0.8m). Interior undulating; possible grave markers. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
