What is recorded here
Possibly having origins dating back to at least the mid to late seventeenth century as suggested by the position abutting a medieval tower house (pre-1647), thereby representing a site of considerable archaeological potential a middle-size house represents an important element of the early nineteenth-century domestic architectural heritage of County Kilkenny having historic associations with the Izod, the Ryan, the Davis, the Hunt, the Purcell, the Helsham, and the Stopford (Montagu-Stopford) families. Alongside a small-scale contemporary (c.1800) counterpart at Kilfane House (see 12402845/KK-28-45) the house is distinguished by the attributes identifying a Regency-period cottage orné style.
