What is recorded here
Situated on the NE-facing slope of a hill in pasture. Indicated on the 1st and latest ed. OS 6-inch maps as a small, circular enclosure with field boundaries abutting the site at E and W. According to the landowner there was a stone wall in the NE quadrant and an earthen bank elsewhere with a gap in bank in NW quadrant. Ash trees grew on bank. The site was levelled in 1970. The landowner thought it was a later feature, possibly a cattle shelter.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
