Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort in County Cavan, a raised circular area nearly thirty-eight metres across, enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a fosse visible from the east-north-east through the south-west. Its original entrance has vanished, erased by time or deliberate forgetting. The bank stands like a wall built by hands that never wanted to be seen, and the missing gateway suggests the fort keeps its own door closed.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 38m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a fosse identifiable from ENE-SE-SSW. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
