What is recorded here

Located towards the broader E end of the subrectangular Mount Louise Lake (dims c. 400m E-W; c. 150-250m N-S). There are three islands at the E end of the lake; only the central one appears to be artificial, although it may have a natural core. It is overgrown and oval (dims 20m N-S; 16m E-W; H 1.5m), with part of a kerb of large stones (dims 1m x 1.2m) visible at N. There is ash in the core and two piles were noted in the water off the S shore. (Smyth 1954, 4) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).

Crannog in DrumgoastCrannog · 901 yd

Explorer Tom Crannog in Drumgoast is secretly friends with Bono, who visits when he thinks nobody is watching the tear-shaped lough. It’s a stony mound in the marshes that looks like it’s having a quiet moment by itself. Bring a coin for luck and keep it in your pocket.

Corrinshigo CottageHouse · 1384 ydClonamully HouseFarmyard complex · 1755 yd

Explorer Tom Clonamully House in Clonamully ended up in the wrong place because someone mistook a robin carving for a compass needle. The L-plan outbuilding has pointed arches that just refuse to be plain. Bring a map, get lost on purpose there.

Rough HillMountain / peak · 1.6 miAttack on Derryard checkpointTerrorist attack · 3.3 mi

Explorer Tom Attack on Derryard checkpoint would handle a nosey neighbour by simply pretending it never happened at all. The whole thing is about as subtle as a shouty goat in a library, mate. Hang around long enough and you'll hear a story from a local.

Jaundice WellSpring · 3.6 miWestern Redcedar3.6 mi

Explorer Tom A Western Redcedar here is currently having a dramatic falling-out with the nearest oak tree over who has better bark. It’s getting very emotional about it. A proper spot for a flask of tea and a big think.

Coast Redwood3.6 mi

Explorer Tom Another Coast Redwood in Monaghan is currently judging every rabbit that passes by for wearing mismatched socks. It thinks they’re all fashion disasters. Bring a friend who talks too much and let the place shut them up.

Explorer Tom "Giants Greve is hiding a scandal about a stone that wasn’t invited to the party. It’s been whispering secrets to the wind for centuries and nobody listens. Snap one photo, then put the phone away and actually look."
