What is recorded here

Located at the centre of Astrish Lough, a small oval lake (dims c. 170m NW-SE; c. 120m NE-SW). This is an overgrown cairn (diam. 16m N-S; 15m E-W) composed of a matrix of small stones and charcoal, but there was no evidence of wooden structures. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 25 July 2017
