Knockanavar is a vanished ringwork on a southern slope in County Tipperary, its twenty-five-metre circle still marked by a scarp that rises two metres at the north but dissolves into the ground at the south. The missing earth may have built a wooden tower, a dry stone wall or a ramped entrance wide enough for a cart, while the shallow ditch beside it suggests people valued warning as much as strength. Whatever vanished, the hill preserved the shape of a choice: to be seen, to enter easily and to leave no grand monument behind.
On a S-facing slope of a NW-SE ridge in a mountainous region. A raised circular area (diam. 25m N-S) defined by a scarp (H at N 1.5-2m; H at S 0.2m) with traces of an external fosse (Wth 2.5m; ext. D 0.5m) visible from W to SW only. The scarp varies in height from N, where it is at its highest, to S where it is barely raised above the external ground surface. There is a possible ramped entrance at the SSE (Wth 9m).
