Indicated is an empty graveyard above a steep river valley in County Kilkenny, marked only by faint church footings and a low curving bank. It was formerly the parish church of Kilmadum, yet local account says nobody had been buried there within living memory when the place was first described. The missing graves do not diminish it; they make the tilt of the land, the bare earth and the distant valley feel like a room where departure was rehearsed but never completed.

On gently sloping land above a steep-sided river valley which lies to the E and S. There are very good views to the E and S. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 464) this was formerly the parish church of Kilmadum. On the 1st (1839) ed. the graveyard is indicated as a rectangular area (dims. c. 28m N-S; c. 18m E-W) but it is not indicated on the 1946-7 revision. The footings of the church (KK014-02001-) are visible within an irregularly shaped graveyard (dims. c. 37m N-S; c. 30m E-W) defined by a low broad bank (Wth 2m; H 0.1-0.2m) which curves in the W sector. According to the OS Letters (1839), 'there remain no appearance of graves about it, and nobody has been buried there within man's memory' (O'Flanagan ed. 1930, vol. 1, 30-31 (1071)).
