Fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Kilcommadan, County Galway

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

What is recorded here

On a hummock in grassland. Marked on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map as a curving boundary in NE corner of a field. What survives is a poorly preserved enclosure (N-S c. 24m, E-W c. 16.5m) defined by an inner scarp, intervening fosse and outer bank, all of which survive from SSE through W to NW. Quarrying has destroyed the enclosing elements from NW through N to NE. A road, running N-S, cuts though E part of the monument and no visible trace survives to E of it. Possibly a landscape feature or the poorly preserved remains of a ringfort. II - North Galway'.
