What is recorded here
The fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Dunowla is in County Sligo, Ireland. It is a raised subcircular area on an east-west ridge in pasture, enclosed by an earthen bank with traces of internal stone facing at the north. Parts of the bank and outer features have been modified into modern field boundaries, while breaks in the inner bank appear relatively modern. A low bank defines a subrectangular area west of the centre, possibly a house.
Situated on top of an E-W ridge in pasture. Raised subcircular area (29m N-S; 25m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 2.8m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.25m at NW, 1.5m at SE) with traces of internal stone facing at N. From WSW-WNW the bank has been modified and incorporated into a modern NNW-SSE field boundary. At the outer foot of the bank from SE-SW is a fosse (Wth 2m) with an external bank (c. 4m; int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1.2m). The external bank has been modified and incorporated into a modern ENE-WSW field boundary. Elsewhere fosse and outer bank are absent. There are breaks in the inner bank at NE (Wth 2m) and E (Wth 2.5m), both of which seem to be of relatively modern origin. A short distance W of the centre of the interior is a subrectangular area defined by a low bank, possibly a house (SL018-23002-).
