Sir Charles Coote had built a wooden bridge connecting Jamestown, Co. Leitrim, with Co. Roscommon by 1622-3 which was depicted on a Survey map of 1657 and it was still extant in 1683. It crossed the River Shannon at the S end of Jamestown, but by 1730 it had been replaced by a stone bridge (RO011-151002-).
